The points won't be in spread sheet format anymore. Instead they will be on MyLaps just like the results. You can still get to them from our website just like always. No log in is necessary, just click the 2011 points standing link.

4/28/11 : More Info for the Formula Yamaha class

The rules for this class are pretty simple. Basically the motor will follow the rules used for the Senior Supercan class. You may use any engine clutch as long as you pass a maximum clutch slip test of 8000 RPM's on the grid. Your flex can not be any shorter than 16 inches. And the minimum weight of kart and driver is 350 lbs. Let us know if you have any questions.

4/26/11 : Formula Yamaha

On February 2nd we stated that the length of the flex could be no shorter than 16 1/2 inches long. Well, with this being a new class there will be changes along the way. We will allow the flex to be no shorter than 16 inches. The reason for this change is so we can be consistent for the drivers that want to go to other tracks and run in this class. So if you could pass this along to anyone that it may concern we would appreciate it. Again, the flex length can be NO SHORTER than 16 INCHES.

4/26/11 : Swap Meet/Open House

We had a great turn out. Thanks to everyone that came out to the track.

4/12/11 : New Classified section !!!

We love being able to help people sell their go kart parts that they no longer need and help other people find the part they are looking for. To make things easier on you we have be teaming up with www.kartparts1.com. The BIG difference will be, is that you will do it all yourself. 4/3/11 : Helmets

Snell Foundation Specifications Legal Until
SA and M 2005 12/20/2015

CMR 2007 (youth helmet) 12/20/2015
M 2010 12/20/2020
SA 2010 12/20/2020

Helmet must be in good condition and is subject to pre-race technical inspection. It may also inspected if it is damaged in an accident. If the helmet shows any damage, WKA recommends that it be returned to the manufacturer for testing and re-certification. Helmet must be secured with a strap. Let us know if you have any questions or if you need directions.

2/20/11 : Formula Yamaha

Remember, you have until the end of this month to purchase your Formula Yamaha package for $138.00, after that it will cost $199.00. Let us know if you are interested.

2/17/11 : THE FLYWHEEL

As a track we want to keep everything as safe as possible. We know that a change has to be made in the Clones classes. With the rules we ran last year the stock flywheel could possibly be at risk. So we felt like we only had 2 options, Box Stock or Builder Prepared. Nobody was very excited to run either of them. The Box Stock class would mean going slower and the Builder Prepared class requires a lot of additional work to be done to the motor. So after hearing from a lot of you, we feel we need to change out the stock flywheel to a billett flywheel. This change is strictly for safety. All rules will be the same as last year for ALL Clone classes with the of exception of the flywheel. We will require that your motor have a billett flywheel( part # 6619 through ARC ). We will have the billett flywheel available for purchase for $90.00 + tax. Please let us know as soon as possible how many billett flywheels you will need so we can get them ordered. And we ask that you help us pass this along to anyone that has a clone motor or has an interest in karting. If there are any questions please contact us at information@61kartway.com.

2/6/11 : Some thoughts on the Flywheel

We have heard from a lot of people about their feelings on the flywheel situation. We have also done some research on this topic. If we change to a billett flywheel and keep the same open header rule, then yes you are going to have a safer motor, but we wouldn't be following any set rules. As a track we want to be safe , but we NEED to follow the rules. WKA and AKRA both have rules for a Box Stock Clone class and they also have rules for a BP (Builder Prepared) Clone class. We think our solution, as a track, is going to be a Box Stock Clone Class and a BP Clone Class. This way we are following the rules, being safe and letting you chose what class you want to run in.

2/2/11 : Our 2nd Winter Get Together

Saturday, February 26th we will have our 2nd Winter Get Together. We will be discussing our 2011 race format, clone flywheel decision, and probably a little more on the Formula Yamaha class. We hope to see you there. Same place, same time.(Tony's @ 6:00pm). Let us know if you need directions.

2/2/11 : Race Format

Last year our race format changed almost every Saturday. Some said they loved it , some said they didn't like the F1 races , some said they didn't like the reverse races and some said that they would like to have an oval race. If you have an opinion that you would like to share give us a call, send an email or come to the next Winter Get Together on 2/26/11 at 6:00pm. We hope to hear from you.

2/2/11 : Flywheel or Spec Header Length

As a track we always want to be as safe as possible. When it comes to the clone classes we need to make a change. If we continue to run with the stock flywheel then we need to change to the spec header length or we change to a billet flywheel and continue running with an open header rule. The reason this is being brought up is because when we make changes to the motor the stock flywheel can be weakened, causing it to fall apart and possibly hurt someone. The billet flywheel cost is around $100.00. I am talking with ARC to see if I can get them a little cheaper. If you can give you input we would appreciate it. We will be discussing this again at our next Winter Get Together.

2/2/11 : Formula Yamaha

Last Saturday at our 1st 2011 Winter Get Together we discussed the new class that we will be running at our track this year. Formula Yamaha is a can motor with a Formula Y header and a PRD Pipe. The flex that is used can NOT be any shorter than 16 1/2 inches long. Now through the end of February you can get the pipe package for $138.00+tax, after that it will be $199.00+tax. Please contact us, Scott Evans or Triple E Sales if you would like a pipe package or if you have any questions. We all are very excited about this new class. We hope that it will catch the interest of those that have a can motor and want to go faster. And I should mention that, for now, we will only be running this class at the Senior level.

1/25/11 : Make some money

If anyone knows of someone that would like to make some extra money this season by providing food at the track on Saturdays, in the afternoon and evening. Please give us a call for more information. 563.659.8900

1/25/11 : Thanks

We want to say thanks to everyone that stopped by our booth at the Rod and Custom Car Show. It great to see our carting friends and to meet some new ones.

1/16/11 : 2011 Season

Yes, it is only January but we are so ready for the season to start. Our first scheduled weekend will be April 23rd, which will be the Swap Meet/Open Practice. Our first Club Race is scheduled for April 30th. The track will be available prior to the swap meet, it just all depends on the weather. The closer we get to April, I will keep you posted on the track conditions.

1/14/11 : New Class

We are very excited to learn more about the new class. So far we know that it is a Yamaha motor with a pipe. It will be faster than the Yamaha Sr. Super can karat but not quite as fast as a TaG karat. The name they have decided on is going to be Formula Yamaha. Again there is a lot more to learn about this class. So if you can make it to our 1st 2011 Winter Get Together that would be great. If you have any questions please send us an e-mail or give us a call. We look forward to seeing everyone.

1/12/11 : Remember to spread the word

In a little more than 2 weeks we will be getting together for some good times, good food and of course to chat about karting. I do Believe that Scott Evans is coming to tell us all about the new class, Yamaha motor with a pipe. Not sure the exact name of the class. We sure hope to see you all there.

1/12/11 : Copy of video from the 2010 Banquet

If anyone is wanting a copy of the video played at the 2010 Banquet please send $10.00 and a self addressed/stamped envelope to Gary Hemesath 715 11th Ave. De Witt, IA 52742. 9/26 : Oval Race Details

There is a last minute concept that seems to be gaining ground quickly amongst all drivers. We've had a large number of requests for an Oval Race. Otherwise, be at the track on Sunday, and be ready to go round and round and round and round and round..........

9/26 : Need A Fun Job in 2011??

61 Kartway is looking for some help. We anticipate the 2011 season being an even busier season than this past year, with our rental kart program beginning to take off. We are looking for the following: small engine maintenance, on track staff, and registration building / office work. Please contact Christy at 563.659.8900 if you have an interest in joining us!

9/25 : 2010 Season Wraps Up

Congratulations are in order for all of the many 61 Kartway drivers who took part in the Rock Island Grand Prix this past weekend. 7/28/10 : Points Updated

Race 12 points have been updated and posted.

7/18/10 : Big Pig Enduro a Smashing Success....

A huge thanks to everyone who attended our 5th Annual Big Pig Enduro. TONS of great racing (multiple classes with leaders crossing line at same time), great drag racing down the straights and out of the top corner, and lots of exciting passing. Following that up was a TON of food (we've got some great cooks in our midst!) and a hog that was spit grilled to perfection. Thanks to EVERYONE that made it happen, and thanks to all who joined!

7/12/10 : Track Opens at 9AM, Racing Starts at 2PM

It's the Big Pig Enduro this weekend, so everything starts early. Track opens for practice at 9AM, with the first heats starting at 2PM. Don't be late!

7/12/10: Hog Roast and Camping

For those not in attendance at the last drivers meeting, the upcoming hog roast weekend, which is always a big social affair, continues to grow with offerings and fun. Upon completion of the races on Saturday, any individuals are welcome to camp either 1) on the track in the infield or 2) at the pond adjacent to the track. Any campers at the pond must have adult supervision. Fishing is allowed (there are some real monsters in the pond!), but bring your own gear!

7/11/10: Points Updated

Race results have been updated and corrected through racing as of 7/10. Our apologies for the incomplete postings from week 9. A small backup error that was not caught until this week!

6/27/10: Race 9 Points and Results Posting Delayed Until Tech Completed

As you may be aware, our clone classes have weekly tech based on a draw out of a hat - no tech, light tech, med tech, and heavy tech. Last night, heavy tech was drawn, which means the winning engine(s) will be torn down at Triple E Motors shop, with the driver and a 61K official on hand. Results and points will be delayed until the tech is completed and the finishing orders are confirmed. We hope to have this completed on Sunday during the day.

6/18/10: Storm Damage at 61 Kartway

The facilities at the track took quite a beating in the Friday afternoon storms, with straightline winds creating some havoc. A portion of the soffit area on the rental garages was thoroughly damaged, and a picnic table was thrown through the hot grid area and destroyed. As well, the bleachers near just outside the hot grid were lifted up and over and the fence (thus damaging the fence line) and thrown out to where the hot grid meets the bottom of the track oval. This has broken the bleachers to where they are not usable for the immediate future. As well, the porta potties - well, lets just say they need a good cleaning at this point. All of this aside, the track, other than some mudslide issues that have already been cleaned, is ready for racing, and we anticipate a full slate of racing on Saturday, assuming mother nature does not, once again, play tricks with us.....

6/17/10: Points Updated, Finally!

We pride ourselves on being quick to get things done, and updating points is a priority. However, due to a technical problem (as in, technically, Greg forgot to do it), they didn't get done last week, or the week before. They are, however, done now!

6/12/10: RACES CANCELLED

Due to the never ending rain, thunder, lightening, and wind, the races for June 12 have been cancelled.

5/24/10: Notice To Drivers for Saturday, May 29

This coming Saturday (May 29), prior to the races, we will have a group coming to the track that will be making use of the rental karts for a short period in the morning. The track will be closed to practice from 10:00 until 11:30. The pits will be open for parking and such, but the track will be closed to any practice until the group wraps up it's session.

5/23/10: A Quick Note.......

This past weekends event was the end of the "grace" period regarding fuel and tech at 61 Kartway. A few drivers were found to have the wrong fuel in qualifying, and with corrections being made before the heat races, all drivers kept their spots. Beginning with Race #5, the rules will be fully enforced regarding fuel, engine tech, tire marking, etc. If you have ANY questions regarding the legality of your fuel, your tires, etc, please see us before the racing starts for the evening. Once the green flag flies in Qualifying, we will enforce the rules to a "T", regardless of your intent or lack thereof! (NOTE: Fuel in Clone class is 87 Octane from Welton BP just south of the race track. All other classes run Sunoco 110.) This is being done to ensure fair and equal racing across the board. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

5/16/10: Track Records Galore

The clone classes rocked on Saturday night, with 4 new track records being set. Lance Anderson ruled the Clone Light class, Jeff Henson handled the Clone Heavy class, and newcomer Kourtnay Borman owned the Junior 3 class. Dalton Weedon continued his run in the Junior 2 class, and there were new track records for all four! Congratulations, drivers!

5/9/10: Race Results & Points

Race points from the previous weeks race will be posted by the following Tuesday each week. As is always the case, results can be found online at www.mylaps.com, or follow the link in our race results section. See you at the track!

4/27/10: First Race Approaches

The season kicks off this weekend at the track. The facility opens at 9AM, with open practice until 2PM. From 2PM to 4PM, the practices will be by class (or age group, depending on turnout). Drivers meeting at 4:15, with the Qualifying starting at 4:30 PM. Bring your "A" game, boys and girls......

4/22/10: Swap Meet / Open Practice Hours

The track will open at 9AM this Saturday, the 24th, with the swap meet beginning at 10AM. This is an informal swap meet, with no charges to attend. You simply work out of the back of your truck or trailer and sell what you can to those who wander the pits. The only charge for the day is if you choose to enter the hot grid to assist a driver or if you wish to practice, in which case you must buy a pit pass ($10.00). Contact us at 563.659.8900 with any questions.

4/21/10: One Stall Left

4/9/10: 61 Kartway - Always Full of Surprises......

Our goal at 61 Kartway is to make this amazing sport as affordable and enjoyable as possible. On that note, we started out the season selling garage stalls at our regular rate. Then we dropped the rates to make them more enticing and more affordable. That has worked so well that we've only got three stalls left. Pretty cool, huh? Wait - we're throwing something more in the pot. Anyone renting one of the remaining stalls (and retro-actively including those that have already rented stalls for this year) gets a one year practice pass for free. "Whaahh???!!!"... you say? That's right. Rent a stall, get a $250.00 practice pass for the 2010 season for free. That means that when you show up to practice, you simply buy your pit pass and hit the track -all practice fees are waived. And if you bought a double stall, you get TWO practice passes for the season. Crazy, huh!? But it's real. Move fast, the final three stalls will be gone before the racing begins.

4/5/10: Rock Island Grand Prix Registration Is Open

Get your registration in. The RIGP Registration is open.

4/1/10: Helmet Certifications at 61 Kartway (Revised)

OK - we goofed and have revised our helmet certifications. The following helmets are approved for the 2010 season: SA2000, M2000, SA 2005, M2005, K2005, CMS2007 (youth), CMR 2007 (youth), M2010, SA2010. 2010 will be the last year that SA2000 and M2000 will be considered legal. Here is some interesting (but dry) information regarding the SFI certifications, and here is the relevant information regarding the Impact Apparel decertifications.

3/30/10: Again, With the Clones.....

It has been a bit crazy as of late with the clones, the rules, the specs, etc. While we are attempting to follow the rules with very few exceptions to keep the costs down and the entry level fun factor in place, it appears that perhaps there is a need to introduce an "Outlaw" class to the series. We would like to receive input from those of you that would be interested in running a "Run Whatcha Brung" class with no tech or specs. Please contact us if this is of interest to you. As is always the case at 61 Kartway, if there is demand, we will put a program together for the group. Contact us and let us know!

3/29/10: More Clone Info......

Gee, you'd think these clones were a big thing or something.... At the last pow-wow, a question was raised as to whether we would be allowing the machining of heads, etc to meet the cc requirements based on the rule book. In an attempt to keep the class as straightforward and entry level as possible, we are "throwing out" the cc check for tech, and simply following the AKRA stated rule of "No machining or alteration of parts is allowed unless specifically noted". Feel free to contact us with any further questions.

3/29/10: Explaining the Clone Cam Debate

There have been a few questions about the clone cam that we will try to summarize here. The stock cam that comes with the motor is adequate but has some variations in it's design. A newer cam from Dyno Cam called the CL1 has been approved by AKRA and WKA (and, as a result, by 61 Kartway) as a valid replacement part due to the variations in the stock part. The new cam DOES increase RPM's compared to the stock cam. However, the CL1 ended up having a small "flaw" if you will, that would render it illegal. 10 seconds worth of filing on the lobe will fix this flaw, or you can simply purchase the CL1-M cam, which is the replacement and has the "flaw" fixed. For further explanation, please feel free to contact us at 61 Kartway. Also remember that at the swap meet, if you have any concerns, we will be performing a free "tech" on clone engines to help you determine if your engine is valid and ready to race.

3/29/10: Track Opens 3/30/10

The track officially opens for practice on Tuesday the 30th. For the next couple of weeks, you need to call ahead to ensure that someone is at the building to check you in for practice. If you do not call ahead, we may not be available to check you in, and therefore you will not be able to enter the track! As a note, rental karts are not available until May.

3/28/10: New From 61 Kartway - The Clone Page

All the rules you need to know for Clone racing are here.

3/28/10: An Important Announcement From the Staff at 61 Kartway

As was announced at the final Pow-Wow, 61 Kartway wants all drivers and teams at the track for the upcoming season to be aware:

In 2010, we will be making a very concentrated effort to manage the on track action during the races. While "rubbing is racing" is a common thought amongst drivers (including ourselves), the large numbers in the growing classes warrants the need for more attention during the evening races. With that being said, we WILL be using the black flag and LOOKING for infractions. We WILL be making calls, throwing the black flag, and managing the on track action at all events. You may very well disagree with the call that is made that evening, but the calls will be made with safety and the best intentions in mind. For questions, please contact Greg or Cliff at the track.

3/27/10: Clone Weights, Other Notes From Final Pow-Wow of Off season

Numerous topics were discussed at the final meeting of the off season, with the opening race just 5 weeks away. The final clone rules for the 2010 season have been finalized, and are posted HERE. The participant numbers for this class this year appear to be off the charts - prepare for some big fields each Saturday Night! Also, we will have the tech tools and our "clone experts" at the track at the swap meet on April 24 - bring your engine up and have it tech 'd and inspected before the season kicks off to know that your engine is in good standing. It will need to be OFF the chassis for any modification work that you want done.

Also be aware that on race days, the final two hours of practice will be by class (not open track), with the clones receiving two sessions to accommodate all the drivers. Sessions will be 10 minutes long.

3/26/10: Safety is Always First. With That in Mind....

A developing story in the world of racing. If you own Impact Racing equipment, you need to read this link. Some of their products have been decertified by SFI. Read more here.

We are pleased to announce a change to second entry costs at 61K for 2010. This year, CLUB members that enter multiple classes will only have a $10.00 entry fee for those extra classes (example: Mark enters TaG Sr. for $30.00, and also enters Clone Class at only $10.00). This also applies to any CLUB members that enter a class, but also have a direct family member entering as well (example: Dad enters Tag Sr at $30.00, Daughter enters Jr. Supercan for only $10.00). If you are not a club member, you still get to benefit. The same premise applies, but the cost is $15.00 for all additional classes.

11/22/09: 2010 Schedule Released With Variety of Race Formats

The 2010 race schedule has been made public, and the season looks to be full of variety and changes. A quick review shows that no two consecutive weekends will be the same, as 61 Kartway moves to multiple formats. F1 style qualifying (10 minute sessions) with standing starts for the races are mixed in with standard 3/8/12 race formats. A few weekends will include drawing for starting positions, with multiple heat races including inverted starts. More reverse course races are scheduled, as well as a mini-enduro race in the middle of the season in conjunction with the annual hog roast. And the 61 Challenge returns for it's second year with a focus on more classes. Click Here to view the 2010 schedule.
