NEWS
5/10/08: Race 2 Rained Out: While we did call it early as the weather was forboding, it did indeed rain eventually. It appears we probably would have gotten our Qualifying in, and maybe started the Pre-Finals, but we certainly would not have made it all the way through the Pre-Finals at all. So while rain points needed to be purchased, hopefully the drivers can view it as a cost savings, as there was no need to purchase pit passes, expend fuel, buy meals, etc. We have a bit of a break, but when we get back to racing, hopefully Mother Nature is in a much better mood than the first two weeks of the season!
5/4/08: Volunteers Needed!!: We are looking for regular volunteers for the season (1 race, 5 races, all races???) for our points races, as well as our specials and regional races. Please contact Greg if you are able to help in any way!
5/4/08: Season Underway With a Chilly Start: The 2008 Season kicked off with a very cold start (45 degrees for the Features!), but with some great racing to start the year. With the weather and commitments holding back some of the drivers, the season kicked off with great fun and excellent competition, as well as a great Arrive and Drive session. Thanks to all who attended - we'll see you next week, where the forecast is looking like sunny and 70+ degrees!
4/27/08: Season Finally Set to Begin: And of course, rain is in the forecast! But nevetheless, we have hope that the weatherman has changed it before Saturday arrives. If, however, it does not, be sure to pre-register and get your rain points so you don't receive a dreaded "0". The race will be called a "Rain Out" by NOON on Saturday if the weather is not cooperating. Rain Out announcement will be on our voice mail, and on our "Home" web page. And don't forget - bring your radios (PA Broadcasting available on FM 98.5!), and your laptop (qualifying and race results broadcast live over wi-fi in the pits!)
4/21/08: Route 66 Reschedules for New Castle: The postponed event at New Castle has been rescheduled for July 5th. The track will be open July 4th for practice, and all Qualifying and Racing will take place on Saturday, the 5th. On Friday night, about 7 miles from the track, there is a very large fireworks display. And on Sunday, July 6th, is the KRA points race (New Castle club racing). New Castle typically brings in around 200 drivers for their club races. Hang around and watch the races, or jump in for a little extra track time.
4/18/08: AccuMeasure Mixing Tank: A very large number of people have been looking for the AccuMeasure Mixing Tank that allows you to put fuel in one side, oil in the other, all with pre-marked measurements for all different mixing ratios. Here is a link to the mixing tank if you wish to order one online. http://www.accu-products.com/accu-products/accu-mix-pre-mix-jug/prod_3016.html
4/14/08: Swap Meet Details: This Saturday, the 19th, is our 2nd Annual Swap Meet and Open Practice day. The forecast appears to be MUCH better than last year (remember the sleet and snow?). Sellers may arrive and setup beginning at 10AM with a 20.00 sellers fee (this years money will go towards additional Tech Pro Barriers for safety). "Shoppers" may begin browsing at 11AM. Open practice begins at the same time. The track will remain open until dark! Sellers may bring a table, a trailer, their truck, or even sell out of the back of an 1970 BMW (Brown Mercury Wagon).
4/10/08: Note Regarding Saturday Pre-Race Practice: Please note that on Saturday's, before racing begins, we will have Open Practice from 10A-3P, where the track is open to all drivers, with the exception of Kid Karts, which will receive their own practice sessions every 30-45 minutes. From 3P to 4:30P, practice will be by general age group: 1) Kid Karts, 2) All Jr. Sporstman classes, 3) All Jr. Classes, 4) All Sr. Classes. Practice will be in 10 minute increments and regulated by a flagman in the pits. No groups will be sent out onto the track after 4:20P.
4/10/08: IMPORTANT SR. CAN RULE CHANGE FOR 2008! In February, a decision that we believed to be with good intention and well thought out, was made to move the Sr. Can weight to 345 lbs. It has become clear that this may not have been a good decision after all, as we have heard from MANY drivers that are against this rule change, as it requires re-scaling and handling changes to compete at tracks other than 61 Kartway. We also pride ourselves on simply following the rules set forth by the governing bodies of karting, and in this case, we are straying away from that principle. With that being said, the Sr. Supercan weight will revert back to 330 lbs for the 2008 season, with the Sr Supercan Masters / Heavy class running at 360 lbs. As has been noted before, our track is here for the drivers, and we try to take all suggestions and weigh them accordingly (no pun intended).
4/10/08: IMPORTANT TAG RULE CHANGES FOR 2008! After many conversations with many drivers, 61 Kartway has made the decision to move to WKA rules (weight and mechanical specs) for the TaG Sr. class for 2008. As most all of the TaG Sr. drivers are running in the Route 66 Series, the Midwest Sprint Series, and/or the ManCup Series, all of which follow WKA rules, it only makes sense for 61 Kartway to follow suit to allow our drivers an easier transition from club points racing to regional/national racing without making numerous mechanical changes. Click here for official weights for ALL TaG classes for 2008.
4/3/08: UPDATED Did You Know?: Kid Kart parents need to take note that the WKA manual is very specific about the air filter this year! Section 903.2 of the Tech Manual: "STOCK filter with at least one stock filter element. Flange inside diameter 57mm. Filter base diameter 89mm. Filter top diameter 51mm. Filter length 102mm. Flange length 16mm. Flange stycle centered. Filter must remain unmodified." This rule will be enforced at 61 Kartway and The Central States Super Series. Note that the Route 66 Series WILL BE ALLOWING the K&N filter during it's series. Contact Greg Grafton with Route 66 with any questions!
***3/24/08: 61 Kartway Starting Time & Running Order For 2008***: The masses have spoken - and we appreciate all of the calls and emails! For the 2008 season, 61 Kartway will begin the driver's meeting at 4:30PM for each event, with qualifying beginning at approximately 4:45-5:00. Drivers meetings ARE MANDATORY! Also, the running order for each Saturday will remain consistent (apart from adding, combing or dropping a class): 1) Kid Karts 2) HPV Medium 3) HPV Jr. Sportsman 4) Yamaha Jr. Supercan 5) Yamaha Sr. Supercan & Masters Supercan 6) 125cc Shifters 7) TaG Junior 8) Yamaha Jr. Sportsman 9) TaG Sr. & TaG Masters/Heavy. We will be taking a bit more relaxed approach to our schedule, allowing more time in between heats for changes, etc!
3/24/08: Did You Know?: You can register for a race and get free practice? If you register for a club race (not regional events!), you practice for free on Saturday before the races. You can register online (any day or any time before the event), download the form and bring it to the track, or do everything at registration on race day. Either way, if you're registered, you get to practice for free on Saturday morning and afternoon. And if it's a rain-out event (will be called by 3PM on Saturdays at the latest), you simply register online or at the track (no pit pass costs included - only your entry fee(s)) and you'll receive first place points for the event. Why are we taking this approach? Becuase our 2008 race schedule and rental programs are making it VERY difficult to find days for make-up events. And make-up events usually end up messing up driver's family schedules as well!
